How it works

  1. Upload your image.
  2. The target is already set to 20 KB. Click Compress.
  3. Download the best result that fits in 20 KB.

A very strict limit

20 KB is tiny for a photo: a typical phone picture is a few megabytes. Some portals ask for it anyway. To get there, the image usually has to become much smaller in pixels too, which is fine for a thumbnail or a small ID picture, but not for a photo meant to be viewed large.

Supported formats

JPG / JPEG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC / HEIF photos (AVIF and GIF open too). HEIC photos are saved as JPG, which every site accepts. PNG has no quality setting, so a PNG can only get smaller by losing pixels; for a much smaller file, JPG usually looks better.

If 20 KB can’t be reached

The File Work lowers the quality first and then the dimensions, within safe limits: it won’t go below a sensible quality or shrink the image to a few pixels. If 20 KB would need that, it tells you instead of giving you a ruined image. When getting under 20 KB visibly lowers the quality, it shows you both versions so you can choose.

Questions

Can I compress an image to exactly 20 KB?

Never over 20 KB, and usually just under it, because it keeps the best quality that fits.

Will image quality change?

Only as much as needed. If good quality won’t fit, the image also gets smaller in pixels, and the result tells you what changed.

Does it work with HEIC?

Yes. iPhone photos open directly and are saved as JPG.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It’s compressed in your browser, on your device.

What happens if 20 KB can’t be reached?

You’ll be told before you download, instead of getting a ruined image. Try a larger limit, or crop the image first.
