How it works

How The File Work picks the quality
Instead of applying one fixed setting, The File Work tries several quality levels and keeps the highest one that fits your target. Only when good quality still won’t fit does it reduce the dimensions, and the result tells you exactly what changed.
When an image would get too small
A very small target can force a large image to shrink a lot. When that would happen, The File Work warns you before you download and suggests a size that looks better. You can still keep your own target.
A note about PNG
PNG has no quality setting, so a PNG can only get smaller by losing pixels. For a much smaller file, JPG or WebP usually looks better, unless the image has transparency or sharp text you want to keep crisp.
