How it works

  1. Upload your image.
  2. The target is already set to 200 KB. Click Compress.
  3. Download the best result that fits in 200 KB.

Upload forms and document portals

200 KB is a frequent cap on upload forms and document portals. It leaves enough room for a clear photo or a readable scan at a moderate size.

Supported formats

JPG / JPEG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC / HEIF photos (AVIF and GIF open too). HEIC photos are saved as JPG, which every site accepts. PNG has no quality setting, so a PNG can only get smaller by losing pixels; for a much smaller file, JPG usually looks better.

If 200 KB can’t be reached

The File Work lowers the quality first and then the dimensions, within safe limits: it won’t go below a sensible quality or shrink the image to a few pixels. If 200 KB would need that, it tells you instead of giving you a ruined image. When getting under 200 KB visibly lowers the quality, it shows you both versions so you can choose.

Questions

Can I compress an image to exactly 200 KB?

Never over 200 KB, and usually just under it, because it keeps the best quality that fits.

Will image quality change?

Only as much as needed. If good quality won’t fit, the image also gets smaller in pixels, and the result tells you what changed.

Does it work with HEIC?

Yes. iPhone photos open directly and are saved as JPG.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It’s compressed in your browser, on your device.

What happens if 200 KB can’t be reached?

You’ll be told before you download, instead of getting a ruined image. Try a larger limit, or crop the image first.
