The background remover runs in your browser. The first time, it is downloaded once (about 40–50 MB for people, 55 MB for objects and pets, including the engine that runs it) and then kept by your browser. Your photo is never uploaded.
People, objects and pets
Tell The File Work what’s in the photo: people get a portrait model that keeps hair, beards and glasses; objects and pets get a general one. Edges are cleaned so the old background’s colour doesn’t show around them.
Then keep it transparent, or put it on white, light grey, professional blue, any colour or a photo; changing the background doesn’t run the removal again. Use the result for a sticker, a profile photo or product photos.
