Good to know
Cropping isn’t possible here: your image is smaller than the required size in one direction, and The File Work doesn’t enlarge images.
The borders stay transparent, like the rest of your image.

Where this size comes from
Meta recommends 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 px for Instagram Stories ads, with 600 × 1067 px as the minimum. It’s also the common size for stories in general.
The frame in the preview, where app buttons and captions often sit, is The File Work’s own guide, not an official measure. It never appears in your file. Instagram is a trademark of Meta. The File Work isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta.

Fill the space or keep the whole photo?
“Fill the space” uses the whole frame and crops from the centre. “Keep the whole image” shows every pixel and adds space around it, in a colour you choose. Both are previewed with your photo before you decide.
Want to choose what stays?
“Fill the space” crops from the centre. To pick exactly which part stays, use Crop image with the 4:5 or 9:16 shape first.
Mind the edges
The frame in the preview shows where app buttons and captions often sit. It’s a guide only and isn’t added to your file.
Questions
What size is an Instagram story?
1080 × 1920 px, 9:16. It’s Meta’s recommendation for Stories ads and the common size for stories.
My photo is horizontal. What now?
Keep the whole photo on a background, or fill the screen and crop the sides. You see both first.
Will buttons cover my text?
They can. The preview frame shows the edges to keep clear; it’s a guide, not part of the file.
Can I choose which part stays?
“Fill the space” crops from the centre. For a different part, crop with Crop image (9:16) first.
