Good to know
Cropping isn’t possible here: your image is smaller than the required size in one direction, and The File Work doesn’t enlarge images.
The borders stay transparent, like the rest of your image.

Where these sizes come from
Instagram keeps a photo at up to 1080 px wide when its shape is between 1.91:1 (landscape) and 3:4 (tall), so 1080 × 566 to 1080 × 1440 px. Other shapes are cropped by Instagram.
4:5 (1080 × 1350) is a common portrait choice within that range, not the only valid size. Instagram is a trademark of Meta. The File Work isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta.

Fill the space or keep the whole photo?
“Fill the space” uses the whole frame and crops from the centre. “Keep the whole image” shows every pixel and adds space around it, in a colour you choose. Both are previewed with your photo before you decide.
Small photos aren’t enlarged
If your photo is smaller than the target, it keeps the right shape at its own resolution instead of being stretched up. Enlarging adds pixels, not detail.
Questions
What size is an Instagram post?
Up to 1080 px wide, in any shape from 1.91:1 to 3:4. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) is a common portrait choice.
Is 4:5 the only portrait size?
No. Instagram now keeps shapes up to 3:4 (1080 × 1440). Pick “Tall post” for that.
What happens with other shapes?
Instagram crops them. Preparing the shape here lets you decide what stays.
Can I post a landscape photo?
Yes, down to 1.91:1 (1080 × 566). Pick “Landscape post”.
