The passport rules ask for a recent colour photo of the face, 32 × 26 mm (26 mm wide, 32 mm high), with a plain, uniform white background, taken from the front, with no dark glasses or anything else that could prevent identification.
Size and background are the same as for the DNI; the DNI rules also say explicitly that the head must be uncovered.
Applying at a Spanish consulate abroad? Some consulates publish their own photo instructions, so check theirs first.

A good source photo
Face the camera in even light, with your whole face visible and a neutral expression. A sharp phone photo works well; skip filters and beauty modes.
Wrong background?
The File Work spots a background that isn’t plain white and can replace it before you print. It can’t make every photo acceptable: check the result before you use it.

What size is a Spain passport photo?
The same as the DNI: 32 × 26 mm in the official text, which is 26 mm wide and 32 mm high.
Can I use the same photo as for my DNI?
The size and background rules are the same, so one photo can serve both. The office checks it when you apply.
What background is required?
A plain, uniform white background. The File Work can replace one that isn’t.
Can I print several copies?
Yes. A 10 × 15 cm sheet holds 8, and an A4 page up to 42.
