Why convert HEIC to JPG?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. It’s an efficient format, but many websites, Windows PCs and Android apps can’t open it. JPG opens almost everywhere, so converting avoids rejected uploads and attachments nobody can view.
What the JPG keeps
The JPG keeps your photo’s full dimensions and correct orientation, and is saved at high quality. A JPG is often larger than the HEIC original, because HEIC stores photos more efficiently. When the file can be made meaningfully smaller at high quality, The File Work shows you the real size first.
If the image has transparent areas, The File Work asks you to choose a background colour first, since JPG can’t store transparency.
